Rocker Switch & Annunciator Engraving

Aircraft Engravers has the ability to engrave a wide variety of Rocker Switch Operators. Also known by different names, even within a company with multiple product lines they may be referred as; Rocker switch operators, Rocker switch buttons, Rocker switch rockers, Rocker switch actuator, Rocker switch covers, Rocker switch cap and annunciators. Engraving is a permanent solution to answer the question on how to label your rocker switches and annunciators. The engraving process actually cuts a “V” shaped groove in the plastic approximately .007” deep which is filled with a contracting paint to give the most durable, highest contrast of any other type of marking methods. This type of engraving will last the life of the switch. Other processes such as laser engraving, hot stamping and the P-Touch hand labeler all have their limitations so Aircraft Engravers chooses not to use those processes.

Aircraft Engravers can engrave many types of rocker switches and annunciators as shown, however, we are capable of engraving many other styles that are not shown also. Please send good photos by email for any switch operator that is not displayed to see if it’s a switch that can be engraved by Aircraft Engravers. They can be either detachable operators or those that are riveted to the switch.

Aircraft Engravers stocks the AML54 rocker switch operators along with some of the AML51 square and rectangle operators also. To see which operators we keep in stock see the Honeywell Switch List below and which switches they’re used on.

Aircraft Engravers does not sell the whole switch, just the operators for those Honeywell switches. All other types will have to be supplied by the customer. See the PDF for more information on the Honeywell AML switches.

Honeywell AML51 & AML54-F10 Rocker Switches

Custom engraved AML54-F10 & AML51 rocker switch and annunciator operators per your drawing. Remember that each operator/annunciator has to be labeled so the user knows what it’s controlling and it’s status by looking at it. You can’t leave unused switches blank, they should be marked with OFF, INOP, SPARE or NOT USED.  

Most cockpit switches are viewed at arms length so the text shouldn’t be too small to read clearly or compressed to tightly that the letters blend together making them hard to read.  Five letters wide is the standard without any compression, but a word like AVIONICS has the A fit under the V and the two I’s don’t take up that much space, however, MASTER has to be compress almost the same amount but has two less letters.

Since there are many variations to each switch type. Not all operators or switches are listed here, just some of the more common ones. We haven’t found an AML switch that we couldn’t engrave.

Also bulbs are: 6.3V - AML91LA86, 14V - AML91LA73,  28V - AML91LA85 & LED which need a 50mA current limiter are: Red - AML92ERL, Green AML92EGL, Yellow - AML92EYL & White - AML92EWL

Piper Rocker Switch Operators

We often get calls and inquiries regarding the Piper 654-489 switch caps.  These are similar to the AML switch caps above, but the Piper covers are a larger size.  We engrave these switch covers also and will be happy to do so for you.  Unlike the AML covers, we do not keep a stock of these on hand, but you can find them at this skygeek.com or Muncie Aviation Company (800) 742-4895 or parts@muncieaviation.com.  You can download the PIPER ORDER FORM here to describe how you want them labeled and have the switch operators drop shipped to Aircraft Engravers.

Piper rocker switch caps

We’ve taken the standard AML54-F10W white rocker switch operators which are painted black by Aircraft Engravers. They are engraved through the black paint into the base white operator to produce a nice looking black operator that can be lit. Because of the nature of this process these switches will have to be lit at all times to read the text clearly. Honeywell’s AML54-F10K will not work as it’s a solid black color and no light will pass through it.

NOTE: The AML rocker switch operators have skyrocketed in price since the world inventory was depleted at the beginning of 2022. We’ve been buying in quantities up to 500 white operators at a time to get the best price we can. And that only keeps us for 6 to 8 months before that is depleted. Remember that all the painted black operators start out white. We also are buying most of the colored operators we can find, however, they are in small lots, so getting the quantity we use we have to buy from multiple sources, hence the additional shipping charges. The prices shown below are at our cost plus shipping charges.
