NARCO AT-50, AT-50A, AT-50A TSO - Faceplate installation directions

Before you begin: Check to see if you received the proper faceplate insert. Are the numbers the same as your radio? Does it fit correctly? Although the holes and text will be the same, many faceplate manufacturers made different widths or heights of the same faceplate. (Just to make life a little more interesting)

1. Have this insert installed by an avionics shop if you do not have all the proper tools, are not a qualified technician or are not sure you are capable of doing this job.
2. If your faceplate does not need painting, go to #8. Set the identification code numbers to 7777. (For ease of re-assembly) The faceplate will have to be removed from the radio by removing the 4 screws, 2 on each side.
3. Tape up the identification code numbers area and the knobs (only if needed) to protect it from painting. Also tape the backside to protect it from any paint over spray.
4. Fill any dents with an auto body plastic filler or similar material.
5. Lightly sand with a fine grit sandpaper for good paint adhesion.
6. Paint the faceplate with a quality paint such as Krylon's 1613 Semi-Flat Black paint.
7. After the paint dries, remove the protective tape.
8. Remove the three (3) original decal inserts as needed. # 1) The main decal, # 2) Narco Logo if required and # 3) AT 50# or Reply Ident as required. There is a short ridge/lip around where the original switch decal was removed. File, scrape, or chisel that small ridge off. Any scratches on the face will be hidden by the new insert.
9. Remove the double face tape backing from the new insert.
10. Place the new inserts onto the faceplate. Reinstall faceplate onto the radio with the 4 screws.
11. You can clean the identification code numbers by applying some rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner on a cotton swab and lightly rubbing the digits until clean.
12. Tell all your aircraft buddies about Aircraft Engravers and place the enclosed sticker on the metal case for future reference.
