ARC/CESSNA RT-359A - Faceplate installation directions

Before you begin: Check to see if you received the proper faceplate insert. Are the numbers the same as your radio? Does it fit correctly? Although the holes and text will be the same, many faceplate manufacturers made different widths or heights of the same faceplate. (Just to make life a little more interesting)

1. Have this insert installed by an avionics shop if you do not have all the proper tools, are not a qualified technician or are not sure you are capable of doing this job.
2. Caution: Do not remove the faceplate from the radio body unless you have to and are fully qualified to put it back together.
3. SPECIAL NOTE: The identification code number knobs are not removable and must be kept in their exact position otherwise the identification code numbers shown will be different than the one tuned in by the radio.
4. Remove the dimmer knob with an Allen or Bristle spline wrench which can be purchased at Aircraft Engravers.
5. For tan faceplate owners, you may want to keep the area by the four windows tan. To remove the clips in the back of the numbered disks is extremely difficult & expensive to buy if any are broken. This area can be taped up and blackened with a Tester's paint stick at step #8
6. Paint the faceplate with a quality paint such as Krylon's 1613 Semi-Flat Black paint and let dry thoroughly.
7. Remove the protective tape.
8. If the area around the Freq. numbers needs to be painted use a Tester's paint stick.  *** USE EXTREME CAUTION *** Do not get the paint onto the numbers. Make a small square of paper or tape to fit into the hole to protect the Freq. numbers as needed.
9. To have the words ALT, ON SBY & OFF lit from the backside, the thin decal has to be removed. Use a very small straight screwdriver to lift it up from the lock down cam hole area.
10. Remove the double face tape backing from the new insert.
11. Install the faceplate.
12. If there is no lens in front of the identification code numbers numbers, you can clean them up by applying some rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner on a cotton swab and lightly rubbing the digits until clean.
13. Tell all your aircraft buddies about Aircraft Engravers and place the enclosed sticker on the metal case for future reference.
